Design

Last Spring, ASUS wowed us with its G73Jh gaming notebook, VGP-BPS9/B and now the company is back with a refreshed version that pairs the same great design with a faster processor, a more powerful Nvidia GTX 460 graphics chip, VGP-BPS9 and a USB 3.0 port for good measure. But are the improved specs enough to give this system a leg up on the competition?

Design

The G73JW-A1 is identical to the G73Jh-A2. At 8.8 pounds and 16.6 x 12.8 x 2.3 inches, the ASUS G73JW-A1 VGP-BPS9/S would never be mistaken for an ultraportable, but compared to some other systems we've tested--such as the 10.6-pound, 18-inch Toshiba Qosmio X505--it seems rather svelte. Carrying it and its 2-pound power brick around in an oversize messenger-style bag was no problem even when we had to stand for a long time VGP-BPS9A/B on the bus.

Modeled after the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, the G73JW-A1 lacks the bling Vostro 1510 Battery of colorful notebooks like the Alienware M17x, but its sleek, angular design and gunmetal gray exterior make it one of the most attractive Inspiron 1545 battery systems we've seen. What really makes the G73JW-A1 stand out is the rubberized material used on both VGP-BPS13B/Q the lid and deck. More notebooks should use this type of material, because it's incredibly comfortable to touch, resists finger prints, stays cool, and provides a significant feeling of durability and quality.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Unfortunately, the G73JW-A1's backlit VGP-BPS13/B keyboard is a huge disappointment, with tiny stiff keys that are difficult for both typists and gamers alike. On the ten thumbs typing test, we got one of our worst scores ever--69 words per minute and a 3-percent error rate as opposed to our average rate of 80 wpm VGP-BPS13 and 1-percent. And that was the third time we tried; on the first two attempts we made so many errors that we just had to restart.

One reason the keyboard is so difficult to touch type on is that the hard keys give really VGP-BPS13A/B weak tactile feedback and require really hard and deliberate strokes. Another issue is that their flat, square shape lacks the kind of curves that make it easy to feel your way around the rows, and the narrow space between them seems smaller than other devices.

Why ASUS decided to not use all available space Dell GD761 Battery for the keyboard remains a mystery. The chassis is 16-inches wide, but has 1.5 inches of empty plastic on either side of the keyboard. Meanwhile, The arrow keys and numeric keypad--both essential for game play--are actually smaller than the rest of the keys, making it difficult to use them as controls. Heat

After streaming a video at full screen for 15 minutes, we measured the keyboard at a cool 87 degrees, the bottom at a temperate 90 degrees, and the touchpad at a chilly 78 degrees. Unlike other gaming battery notebooks that have hot palm rests and decks, we didn't notice a single hot spot on the G73JW-A1 even when we were gaming and that's battery quite an impressive feat. We consider temperatures below 95 degrees comfortable and below 90 degrees to be basically imperceptible.

Asus UL20FT-A1

A relatively powerful Core i3 processor, brushed metal lid, and comfy keyboard make Dell Latitude 131L Battery this ultraportable worth a look, but it's frustrating to use.

Believe it or not, there was a time when 12-inch ultraportables weren't just considered supersized or supercharged netbooks. It was its own laptop category, mostly populated by business machines for road warriors. The Asus UL20FT-A1 focuses more on entertainment, thanks to features such as Altec Lansing speakers, and there's no question that this laptop has enough speed to be your primary work-and-play PC. You also get a stylish sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery brushed aluminum lid and comfy keyboard. But is that enough to justify its $629 price when you can get the 12.1-inch EeePC 1215N netbook for $130 less?

Design and Ports

Handsome but somewhat unassuming, the UL20FT weighs a light 3.4 pounds and features a sturdy and classy brushed metal casing. You won't have Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery to worry about fingerprints marring this notebook. The EeePC 1215N is the same weight, but its all-plastic chassis doesn't feel quite as sturdy. Asus doesn't have a reputation for delivering great ergonomics, and the UL20FT doesn't do much to change that perception. However, the touchpad button will be a deal-breaker for some. It's entirely too stiff, good battery and it's also small. We resorted to double tapping the touchpad to make selections, and whenever we had to right-click we were reminded why we avoided the button. The ridged touchpad offered smooth navigation as well as smooth pinch-to-zoom gesturing. Too bad the pad measures a mere 2.5 x 1.5 inches (versus a relatively mammoth 3.3 x 1.9 inches for the 1215N). We wish Asus could combine the keyboard on this notebook with the touchpad on its souped-up netbook.

Hands-On With Toshiba’s Folio 100 Android Tablet: Should The iPad Be Worried?

This week at IFA here in Berlin there are plenty of new tablets to play with. I stopped Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad T61 Battery by the Toshiba booth to get some hands-on time with their newly-announced Folio 100, a 10.1-inch Android slate. This Nvidia Tegra 2 tablet has multimedia chops for sure, but that might not be enough to make up for what some will see as a rather glaring omission: no Android Market.

The Folio 100 is a good-looking tablet, but its aesthetics Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad T60P Battery serve to give a good impression, then get out of the way of the user experience. As such, the screen is the star of the show, naturally. I loved the feel of the 1.6 pound device and I’m impressed with its 0.55-inch profile.

Colors on the 1024 x 600 resolution display were appropriately rich, and the capacitive multitouch screen responded easily to taps sony VGP-BPS9/S battery and swipes. Android 2.2 looks great with an even bigger canvas to work with. The company has added a few UI tweaks to make the OS even slicker.

Most netbooks can’t match these framerates and hitch-free playback.

The HDMI out port will certainly gain this tablet some fans. Currently the Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery Samsung Galaxy Tab doesn’t have HDMI out capability — though it’s possible via the 30-pin connector — but it does have TV-out via an adapter to RCA cables. There are pros and cons to each approach, but in an increasingly HD-obsessed media landscape, the Folio 100 has a leg up in this area for the moment. Both devices are DLNA-capable, though, which allows for connection and sharing across platforms and devices.

The front-facing camera, internal mic and headphone jack means it’s video chat ready (we spied Fring pre-loaded on a demo unit), but telephony functionality Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery isn’t necessarily in the cards. Some models in some markets will have mobile broadband capability according to the press release, but no details on whether the U.S. is one of them.

Apparently this is what kept the tablet from Google Certification, so you won’t find the Android Dell Studio 17 Battery Market here. For some people that’s a dealbreaker, especially now that the Galaxy Tab and the ViewSonic ViewPad 7 have certification. Toshiba hopes to counter any hesitation for consumers with their own Market Place. Not only will you find apps but also music, HD video, and eBooks on sale. The company is working with developers already and hopes to attract more to the platform. Whether they’ll be able to build that library fast enough to attract enough buyers remains to be seen.

It’ll be out around November in Europe, but American fans will have to wait until early next year before we can get our hands on it. Though that’s bad news for those of you who want it now, it hopefully means that by the time it makes it to our market the kinks will be worked out, more developers will be on board, and perhaps some media partnerships will emerge.

Toshiba Libretto W105

While this pricey dual-screen tablet has a number of clever innovations, short battery life Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery and other flaws make it a tough sell.

With all the talk about Android tablets, including one sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery from Toshiba, the Toshiba Libretto W105 is definitely an outlier. It's the first high-profile Windows 7 touchscreen device to launch this year, and it features a unique dual-screen design that Toshiba calls an experiment. And, like most experiments, there are some aspects of this device that succeed (bundled touch apps, plenty of keyboard choices), and others that fall flat (battery life, heat). At $1,099--and in limited supply--this device is geared for, and will appeal mainly to, early adopters looking for something exotic. So should you snatch one up, or leave the W105 for gadget collectors?

Design

When closed, the all-black Libretto W105 looks like a thicker version of the Sony VAIO P, another device that's neither fish nor Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery fowl. The Libretto measures 8 x 4.8 x 1.2 inches, and weighs 1.8 pounds, just 0.4 pounds more than the VAIO P.

When opened, the Libretto's W105 footprint is roughly the same as the iPad, which is when this sony VGP-BPS9 battery curiosity reveals its audacious design. Both halves are dominated by a large 7-inch touchscreen. On the upper half, a power button sits to the right of the screen; the left has a webcam. The bottom half, too, only has two buttons: the left one activates the on-screen keyboard. The right is the Home button, which moves the taskbar to the upper display, and opens Toshiba's Bulletin Board app in the bottom display.

When sitting on a desk, the weight of the lower sony VGP-BPS9/S battery half kept the Libretto W105 from tipping backwards, even with the upper display tilted far back. Turned sideways, we found the device most comfortable to hold in the middle with our right hand.

Ports are limited to just one USB and a headphone jack.

Heat

After playing a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the lower screen remained a cool 79 degrees, but the upper half Dell Studio 17 Battery was a scorching 117 degrees; Toshiba even places a warning sticker on the hottest area. Moreover, the fan on the Libretto seemed to be working overtime, and was clearly audible even with other noise in the room. If you're holding the Libretto by the bottom half, the heat won't be an issue, but if you're holding it on its side, like a book, it's quite uncomfortable.

Display(s)

As mentioned, the Libretto has two 7-inch touchscreens, both with a resolution of 1024 x 600, Dell Studio 1737 Battery and both with haptic feedback, which is helpful when typing on the virtual keyboard (more on that below). Both were very crisp and bright; despite their small size, two people sitting on either side would be able to see movies on screen without any problems.

The Libretto has an accelerometer that automatically switches both displays from landscape to portrait when turned sideways. Unfortunately, the transition is less than seamless; it takes a good 10 seconds for the displays to switch, during which time Dell Studio 1535 Battery they go blank. By comparison, when you rotate the iPad, the change is instantaneous. Moreover, you can only rotate the Libretto in one direction, so that the side with the battery is in your left hand. Considering smart phones can be turned 360 degrees, we wonder about this omission.

Touchscreen Features

Windows 7 has never offered a touchscreen-friendly interface, and its limitations are once again evident on the Libretto W105. Trying VGP-BPS13B/Q to press tiny icons with our finger was highly frustrating. Fortunately, Toshiba included a number of software enhancements . A series of icons in the taskbar--just a bit larger than the standard Windows icons--let you adjust the volume, magnify sections of the screen, and pull up a virtual keyboard and a virtual touchpad.

The touchpad was especially helpful. For example, we were able to use our thumb to move Sony Laptop Battery the cursor about the desktop and access items in the Start menu. You can opt for one that's 2.7 by 1.4 inches, or a smaller 1.8 by 0.9-inch touchpad; we preferred the latter, as we didn't have to stretch our thumb as much. However, the Libretto W105 would be greatly helped with an optical touchpad, as on the VAIO P or even the Viliv N5.

The keyboard was fairly easy to use, too. When open, Sony VGP-BPS13 Battery it takes up the entire lower display, and even has five different configurations, plus a number pad. The first two have just QWERTY keys with numbers above in slightly different sizes; a second shrinks the keys, but adds in the function row. The next two are split keyboards, the second of which we found easiest to use while typing--our thumbs didn't have to reach as far toward the center of the screen. While you're not going to write the next great American novel, it's more than comfortable enough to bang out e-mails and memos.

On a few occasions, Windows got in the way: when we were trying to type in our router's password, the keyboard Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery would cover up the window, so we couldn't see where we were typing. Toshiba found a way around this issue, too: Pressing the Home button moves the taskbar to the upper screen, so obscured windows were no longer a problem.

When the Libretto is in this configuration, the lower screen is occupied good battery by the Toshiba Bulletin Board, which gave us easy access to Wi-Fi, diagnostics, and security and backup tools. Also, the icons for the volume, keyboard, etc. are even larger and easier to press. This is the setup that we preferred the most.

Wirklich störend ist das Geräusch aber nicht, zumal es konstant läuft und nur bei dauerhafter Höchstlast (CPU + GPU) auftritt.

Temperatur

Die Temperaturen auf den Flächen des flachen Gehäuses sind ohne Belastung (Idle) relativ gering aber unter Stress mit bis akku sony vgp-bps2b zu 46 Grad recht hoch. Unter Last bedeutete einen Stresstest von einer Stunde mit Prime95 (CPU) und einem wiederholten 3DMark05 (3DMark06 läuft nicht).

Akkulaufzeit

Der extrem niedrige Stromverbrauch der Prozessor-Chipsatz Kombination (5.8 Watt im Idle) sorgt für eine gute Laufzeit von knapp dell inspiron 1720 akku 5 bis 8 Stunden, selbst mit dem 4-Zellen Standard-Akku (4.100 mAh). Realistische Laufzeiten im Betrieb mit WLAN oder dem integriertem 3G-Modul (UMTS) liegen bei 4:47 (287 Minuten) bzw. 4:03 Stunden (243 Minuten). Weil Akku Dell Latitude D610 ein DVD-Film mangels optischen Laufwerks nicht möglich war, haben wir ein WMV von der Festplatte im Loop abgespielt (100 cd/m² Luminanz). Das Resultat ist mit 4:01 Stunden (241 Minuten) ganz brauchbar.

Akkulaufzeit

Die Energieaufnahme des 11.1-Zollers ist entsprechend der schwachen Komponenten und des SSD-Speichers Akku Dell Latitude D630 sehr gering und liegt auf Netbook-Niveau. 5.8 Watt benötigt das Vaio X13 im Idle, wenn maximale Energiesparmaßnahmen aktiv sind. Unter hoher Belastung steigt die Wirkleistung auf 14.5 Watt. Jetzt sind auch alle Funkmodule aktiv und die Luminanz auf Maximum geregelt.

Fazit

Sony beweist, dass man auch mit einem veralteten Atom Z550 noch Akku Dell Latitude D830 etwas anfangen kann. In Kombination mit einem schnellen 128 GB SSD-Speicher von Samsung bezeichnen wir die Anwendungsgeschwindigkeit als akzeptabel zum Surfen, E-Mails Abrufen oder im Word Tippen. Das VPC-X13D7E/B ist in Sachen Anwendungsleistung 14 Prozent (PCMark Vantage) schneller als Netbooks mit Intel Atom N450. Speziell die schnellen Lese- und Schreibzugriffe machen sich bei der täglichen Arbeit bemerkbar.

Das entspiegelte HD-Ready Akku HP Compaq 6910P Displaypanel (1.366 x 768) macht ebenso eine gute Figur. Mit einer guten Helligkeit sowie großzügigen horizontalen Blickwinkeln macht es die Arbeit angenehm.

Die Laufzeit von vier bis fünf Stunden (realistisch) ist kein Höchstwert für ein Subnotebook, aber im Einklang mit dem extrem Akku HP Compaq 6730B geringen Gewicht eine sehr gute Basis für einen ultramobilen Mini. Zusammen mit der hochwertigen Haptik des Carbonfaser-Materials entsteht ein eindrucksvoller Gesamteindruck.

Aber es gibt eine Schwäche bei der Verarbeitung: Die akku Carbonhülle des 11.1-Zollers ist extrem hart aber nicht verwindungssteif. Das wäre unproblematisch aber hinzu kommt: Der entnehmbare Akku mindert die Stabilität des Chassis. Mit einer geschlossenen Bodenplatte und einem festverbauten Akku hätte Sony diesen Schwachpunkt vermeiden können. Dies schadet dem Eindruck von Wertigkeit beträchtlich.

Das Vaio VPC-X13D7E/B gibt es nicht zum Netbook-Sparpreis. Es eignet sich daher für Leute, die ein Prestigeobjekt suchen. In akku Sachen Leichtigkeit und Exklusivität ist das Vaio X den Eee-PCs, MSI Winds und Aspire-Ones aber meilenweit voraus. Leider gilt das nicht für die Stabilität.

Samsung NF Series Netbooks Tout Shark Fin Design and Dual-Core Atom Processors

Samsung netbooks have always been a successful marriage Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery of portability and price.

New iPod nano with Multitouch Hands-On: Minimalist to the Extreme

It kind of makes the shuffle look irrelevant, except for one small detail. The price. The new VGP-BPS13/B nano (8GB), which boasts a small but sweet capacitive display, starts at $149, compared to just $49 for the new Shuffle (2GB). The old nano right now can be had for as little as $110 on Amazon, so is this device splurge worthy? It depends on how you plan to use it, because Apple has stripped some stuff out compared to the last-gen model.

The new nano features a small but crisp 1.5-inch Sony VGP-BPS13 Battery display with 240 x 240 resolution, and this device is really designed to be worn. Not only does the nano weigh just .74 ounces, it’s made of sturdy aluminum, making it an ideal exercise companion. Cleverly, Apple lets you rotate the display with a two-finger gesture so you’re always looking at menus and content the right way no matter how you attach it to your body. However, Apple has lopped a couple of big features off.For starters, the nano no longer captures video. For that capability you’ll have to step up to the $229 iPod touch. You also can’t play video on this device as you could with the last-gen nano. Then again, we don’t think anyone Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery would want to watch movies or TV shows on this stamp-size screen.

During our brief hands-on time, navigating through menus was pretty seamless Sony Laptop Battery with a finger, and you get physcial volume buttons and a power button up top. To get back to the main screen at any time, you just press and hold the display. Other notable features include Genius playlists, and FM radio, and Nike + integration. The 24 hours of music playback on a charge isn’t shabby either.

So is the new nano really cool? Yes, it’s pretty amazing how much good battery functionality Apple packed. Just keep in mind that it’s a music focused device, and that you’re paying a premium for multitouch

ASUS Eee PC 1215N

The addition of Nvidia's Optimus graphics technology makes this the Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery best 12-inch notebook you can get under $500.

With each generation, 12-inch Ion netbooks sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery are edging closer to their Pinocchio-like aspirations of becoming real notebooks. The ASUS Eee PC 1215N comes the closest yet to that ideal of a sub-$500 machine that performs like systems that cost more--yet lasts even longer on a charge. That's because it's packed with a dual-core Atom processor and Nvidia's Optimus graphics-switching technology. Not only that, the 1215N features an improved design that makes it more comfortable to use for extended periods of time. Power and portability in an inexpensive package? Wish no longer.

Design

The 1215N looks very similar to the 1201PN (and the 1201N, for that matter) but comes with some welcome enhancements. The laptop Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery is slightly heavier than previous iterations, at 3.4 pounds (compared to 3.2 for the 1201PN), but remains very easy to carry. Gone is the glossy black exterior; the 1215N has a matte finish that doesn't pick up fingerprints as easily as its predecessor--but you'll still notice them after a few days of use. Chrome accents are also sparse: The power button, mouse bar, and two strips outlining the touchpad are the only metallic trim on this handsome machine.

Like the 1201PN, the left side of the 1215N houses a VGA port, tiny AC adapter jack, HDMI sony VGP-BPS9 battery output, and a USB 2.0 port, as well as a memory card slot (the latter was formerly on the right side). On the right are two more USB ports, headphone and mic jacks, an Ethernet port, and a Kensington Lock slot.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard

is also unchanged from the 1201PN; it's quite sony VGP-BPS9/S battery comfortable to use and offers pretty good feedback. However, the right Shift key is slightly undersized, and there's a bit too much flex for our liking. If ASUS

were to get rid of the Home, PgUp, PgDn, and End keys along the right side, it would leave room for a larger Right Shift key. We also wish Asus would invert the function keys and make them direct action keys (for things like adjusting the brightness and volume).

The most noticeable change to the inside is that the touchpad is no longer dimpled, a trademark feature of ASUS notebooks for some time. Rather, Dell Studio 17 Battery the smooth surface is the same as the rest of the keyboard deck but is very low friction, making it easy to maneuver. We especially like that the touchpad is a good deal larger than before--3.3 x 1.9 inches versus 2.5 x 1.3 inches on the 1201PN. This made multitouch gestures, such as pinch to zoom, much easier to execute. The touch button, too, is much larger, now measuring 3.4 inches wide, up from 2.5 inches. However, it still remains a single button, and is slightly stiff.

Heat

The 1215N remained very cool during our testing. After playing a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the touchpad area Dell Studio 1737 Battery was just 79 degrees Fahrenheit, the area between the G and H keys was 82, and bottom of the system got up to 90. All are well below what we consider uncomfortable--95 degrees and higher--although the bottom next to the vent reached 105 degrees.

Display, Speakers, and Webcam

The 1366 x 768-pixel display on the 1215N is bright and crisp, though Dell Studio 1535 Battery you have to tilt the lid back a bit to get the best picture, and horizontal viewing angles could be better. The 720p videos streamed from YouTube were detailed and smooth, as were 480p TV shows on Hulu.

The dual speakers underneath the front lip of the 1215N delivered plenty of volume, though we noticed that the sound got muffled when we moved the netbook good battery from the desk to our lap.

The 0.3-MP webcam is improved from before; while our face looked a little pallid on Skype, Sony Laptop Battery it wasn't pixilated, and the image was fairly bright. A new addition is a little sliding cover that physically blocks the webcam, for those times when you'd prefer others not to see you.

Asus N82Jv-X1

The Nvidia Optimus version of this 14-inch system is an improvement Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery over the original, but battery life is still lacking.

The ASUS N82Jv-X1 is a great system that's short on time. It has an eye-catching lid covering a powerful Core i5 processor and a discrete GPU, plus Nvidia's graphics-switching Optimus technology. Unfortunately, like its non-Optimus sibling, a sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery short battery life hinders its endurance, but if you can find an outlet quick enough this system will make sure you don't regret it.

Design

At 5.2 pounds and 13.8 x 9.7 x 1.4 inches, the N82Jv-X1 ($999) is a little heavier and thicker than competitors Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery such as the lighter and slimmer Gateway ID49C08u. Though it's light enough to carry in your bag, the N82Jv-X1's bulk takes up more space than we'd like.

The lid is fitted with an interesting cubed pattern in dark brown that has a metallic VGP-BPS9 effect when the light hits it just right. Similar to the Asus N82JQ-A1, the inside deck is accented with a soft-touch matte finish that helps keep the area fingerprint-free.

The right physical power button (which has a white status VGP-BPS9/S indicator light) and corresponding left instant-on button fit in with the design of the N82Jv-X1, but we would've liked to see shortcut launch keys or dedicated media controls. Having to use a function command to adjust the volume (Function key + F12 to increase or F11 to decrease) during gameplay is slightly annoying.

The ASUS N82Jv's chiclet-style keyboard provided adequate feedback, important when playing first-person shooters, Akku Sony VGP-BPS8 and we have no complaints about the key arrangement. We noticed less flex with the N82Jv-X1 compared to the N82Jq-A1.

The 3.25 x 2-inch touchpad is fairly large and has a textured surface (the same as the cubed pattern on the lid) VGP-BPS8a that prevented our finger from slipping when gaming or navigating through Windows 7. Its single mouse button was a bit stiffer than we'd like, though.

Display and Audio

The glossy 14-inch, 1366 x 768-pixel LED-backlit display Akku HP PB992A produced reasonably bright images and sharp colors, but viewing angles left something to be desired. The screen's high gloss can be a distraction in certain conditions, but the trade-off for deeper colors is worth it. The glare wasn't disruptive even in our well-lit lab, though sunlight was a much larger problem.

When watching videos, playback on the ASUS N82Jv-X1 was smooth and noise-free. Streaming "The Wanda Sykes Show" from Akku HP compaq NX7400 FOX.com was smooth, but picture quality was noticeably pixelated. However, pixelation was absent when watching a 720p trailer of the movie "Takers" streamed in QuickTime.

Despite being positioned below the keyboard, the Altec Lansing speakers were Dell Studio 17 Battery loud and clear while listening to Jay-Z and Tupac via Pandora, and we didn't hear any distortion or tinniness typical of most notebook speakers. Their position on the front lip of the system helps keep the speakers from accidentally being blocked while typing. At maximum volume, the sound isn't overpowering, yet it's loud enough to fill a quiet medium-size room.

Ports and Webcam

The N82Jv-X1 certainly isn't lacking for ports. On the left Dell Studio 1737 Battery side of the system is a VGA connection, headphone and mic inputs, an HDMI port, and a super-fast USB 3.0 port. Hidden behind a small plastic door on the right side is a standard USB 2.0 connector, an eSATA port, and an Ethernet connection. Between the speakers on the front of the system is a 5-in-1 memory card reader.

The 2-megapixel webcam produced clear images when video conferencing through Skype and audio Sony Laptop Battery quality was crystal clear. On the other hand, images were a bit noisy and motion detection lagged a little. The N82Jv-X1 is bundled with ASUS's LifeFrame software that allows you to capture video

and snap pictures, then edit the content and apply special effects. Its facial recognition technology isn't perfect, but the pre-effects in LifeFrame are worth trying out.

This suite includes an intuitive interface, 10GB of online storage, Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery and thorough protection against identity thieves.

You may know Webroot best for free security software, particularly its tools designed to make web surfing safer. However, the company offers one of the most compelling security suites we've tested, Internet Security Complete. If it offered parental controls, it would be practically perfect.

User Interface and Setup

As with the rest of the interface, the PC optimization feature, called System Cleaner, is easy for novices to use, but also offers enough advanced options to satisfy more tech-savvy users. You can simply click Cleanup Now to run all of the cleanup processes, which removes Internet items, Windows and Microsoft Office files, VGP-BPS13B/Q and third-party application files, as well as permanently delete files. Or, you can disable any of these processes, even customizing which browsers and third-party applications are exempt. Norton 360, to name a formidable competitor, doesn't have a button for running all of these processes at once, nor does it offer as many advanced settings. Best of all: it's fast. Our system cleanup took just 13 seconds (you can see on-screen how much time has elapsed).

Identity Protection

The software also has robust identity protection controls, which are located not in the desktop VGP-BPS13/B client, but at my.webroot.com. Through these controls, you can add favorite sites, as well as your passwords for them. You can also add profiles containing information that you're frequently asked to fill in, including credit card numbers. By default the anti-spam filter is turned off, but the anti-phishing tool is enabled.

Although we sometimes resented having tot launch our browser to access this feature, we appreciate that working in the browser allows users to install a toolbar (Firefox and IE-compatible) that lets users fill in forms and passwords no matter what Dell GD761 Battery computer they're using. For some people, of course, this won't be a deal-breaker, but parents who take comfort in being able to monitor and even control their childrens' web surfing, chatting, and social networking will be more satisfied with suites such as Norton Symantec 360, which offers thorough parental controls that cater to different parenting styles (e.g., those who seek to keep kids from doing certain things, and others who just want to keep an eye on what they're doing).

Verdict

Although parents looking to monitor their childrens' computer use will be good battery disappointed (we recommend they check out Symantec Norton 360 for $69.99 a year instead), we still like Webroot Internet Security Complete (a relatively pricey $79.95 per year) for its simple user interface, and rich identity protection settings. Additionally, you get a generous (and more usable) 10GB of online backup. If you don't require parental controls, its interface and practical amount of storage won't disappoint.

It’s not just businessmen and women who travel abroad. Students, too, go overseas for college, and like those they’ll eventually join on that long gray line, need something portable yet powerful. Ri, one such student, is looking for such Akku TK330 a laptop, and possibly one that’s a tablet, too.

I’m a high school student going overseas for college next year in January and so I’m planning VGP-BPS8 on getting a new laptop to go with me. Currently I own a netbook and a 4 year old Fujitsu T4210, but they’re both proving to be too slow for strenuous use. So, I’m looking for a practical laptop for some serious work, including elaborate powerpoint presentations, basic graphic design and relatively intense video editing that isn’t overly heavy (anything around 2kg will do me good) and won’t have me living off the nearest power outlet, as I constantly work on the go.

I’ve done some research and is quite interested in Alienware MX11, HP VGP-BPS9/B Battery Touchsmart, Fujitsu T900 and Toughbook C1. Because I’ve been using tablet PCs for 4 years, I’m not sure if I’ll be comfortable without one but they are more expensive that normal laptops; however are more portable than typical laptops and more practical than netbooks. Mobile Flash Fail: Weak Android Player Proves Jobs Right

Symantec pioneered the category VGP-BPS9A/B of all-in-one security suites with Norton 360, which combines traditional tools to thwart malware, spam, and phishing attacks with parental controls, identity theft protection, online backup, and utilities designed to make your PC run faster. The software won our Editors' Choice award two years ago, and this year it earns the honor again, thanks to more robust parental controls and a simple but elegant interface.

Installation

Installing the 300MB program was straightforward: after agreeing to Symantec's terms and conditions, Norton 360 detected and removed VGP-BPS13B/Q a previous-generation Norton product installed on our PC. (It can detect specific versions of competing programs that are known to present compatibility conflicts.) After a brief wait, we were prompted to restart, and that was that.

Interface

Underneath each pane, you'll see the status (e.g., Protected, written in green).
